After filming the target audience's feedback to the trailer we have decided to conduct a small analysis of the feedback and are going to conclude what we think about the feedback.
Question 1) what do you think the film is about.
Almost all of the people asked described the exact storyline that we had created; they pointed out the fact that he was successful and a professional BMXer which we really wanted to bring across within the trailer. They also picked up on the stalker and a couple stated the kidnapping but the unknown possibility that he may have been killed.
We are really happy with the feedback because it shows that the audience does understand the storyline that we are trying to display. they have picked up on key scenes within the trailer to back up their suggestions showing that they understand what the film would be about.
Question 2) does it appeal to you as the target audience?
only one person stated that it didn't appeal to them; however I feel this was a personal opinion and they did in fact state this and also said that "it would appeal to our age group" which is still very positive. another stated that this appealed to them as they were able to relate to the character and were of a similar age to the characters shown. two others also touched on the mystery aspect of the trailer and would watch the film to find out more.
This feedback is also very positive as only one person stated that it didn't appeal to them; But even this was turned positive because they stated that it would appeal to our age group (target audience) as they were able to relate to the film, so it is just down to a personal opinion. The others stated that they wanted to find out more from the trailer which would encourage them to go and watch the film. This is exactly what we wanted because it means that this promotional method is persuading people to watch the film.
Question 3) what genre do you think the trailer portrays.
5/6 picked up on the psychological thriller genre that we have tried to show. They said that "the thriller side because he gets kidnapped... its kind of psychological because the person who is doing the bad stuff to him isn't known" This is the feedback that we wanted as it shows that the trailer is portraying the genre that we wanted. One audience member thought the genre was more mystery; even though this is not the genre we based the film around; it still links to the psychological side of the film which works in it's favour.
We are happy that almost all of the people asked knew the exact genre of the film and by them linking it to certain aspects of the film it shows us that the decisions we have made were the right ones. Even though one member thought the film was more mystery it means that audience members that are interested in this style and genre of film can also be targeted which means more revenue could possibly be made.
Question 4) do you think that the trailer follows typical codes and conventions?
" the film stops on certain important scenes" this is something that we noticed within abduction which is why we decided to use it within our own trailer as it worked effectively. " the music.. aids how action packed it is". This is what we were trying to create we wanted the music to reflect the fast paced editing that we decided to include. we noticed this within our research which is why we felt it was something to consider when putting together our trailer. They also picked up on the film name and the institutional information; this is something that was necessary to fit in with the codes of conventions of existing trailer.
We are happy that all said that they did and they also picked out the areas that we found in the research we conducted. They stated the things that we focused on at the end of our research when choosing how the research would affect our own trailer.
Question 5) which technique do you think works the best
"when George is on the CCTV"
" it appears to be like a rewind"
" the shot of him cycling down the road"
" the rewind and fast forward bit... its different"
" I like the shot when he is on the bike in the air and it takes a snapshot"
" the bit with her eye"
This wouldn't affect the trailer however we wanted to find out the parts that the audience liked the most, we found out that there were part such as the CCTV ending that they all touched on however each audience member liked different aspects of the trailer; This is good because it means that there aren't certain parts of the trailer that outshines others but the end CCTV effect ends the trailer well.
Question 6) what element of the trailer could be improved?
One viewer didn't want to change anything, however others stated for example " the CCTV could be faster ... so it flashes ... then rolls". Another answer was that the "institutional info should contain larger font for the names of the actors" this is a very valid point as we didn't really think about this. This is something that we could improve on within future products; and something we should research into. parts could be slower so that people could read it more. This is something we considered however decided against because we didn't want to emphasise some of the scenes too much and also wanted to keep up with the fast pace of the trailer an accompanying music.
Conclusion
We are happy with this feedback as it has shown us that the audience are interested in the film that we have created and also they have grasped the storyline and the genre that we are trying to portray and the same time that they are making their own minds about what certain buts might mean which is exactly what we wanted.
