Website analysis - Memento

I have decided to conduct an analysis of 'Memento's' website. I want to see the effect that some of the features create and the way that the user can interact with the product

http://www.otnemem.com/

Firstly the domain address sets the tone for the website. 'memento' is spelt backwards which gives the audience the idea that there is something weird and psychological about this film.

This is the opening page
With this example the user can choose one of two sites, read up on when the film is/was released and it also gives the user the opportunity to download the software they need to view the site. This is helpful as it keep the user in total control.

  • The text used on the splash page is bold and easy to read; this makes it easier for less experienced users to use the website effectively.
  • The release date is clear on the website which means that the company has shown the link between the two product; this is essential so that the user make the most out of the products you have spent time creating.
  • It gives the user the opportunity to download the software needed to play the flash website
  • The image is one of the prime focuses and should engage the user into wanting to find out more about the film
  • I do not feel as though there is enough interactive features within the first page; this makes it quite dull an doesn't invite the user to actually use the page.

Conclusion
I do not feel as though this splash page is as effective as it could possibly be; I feel that the splash page or the homepage should be engaging and should excite the user I feel that the layout of this splash page is quite basic and boring and as a user it didn't excite me into wanting to go further within the website.
Impact on my own product
  1. I need to make sure that there is a CLEAR link between the three products I am creating.
  2. The images need to be engaging but shouldn't give away too much information about the film
  3. The title of the film needs to be a prime focus; it should be bold and easy to read
  4. I need to add in interactive features to engage the user into the product.
  5. I should add in an 'over-state' to the navigation to make it easier for the user to use. This involves adding in a different coloured button into the over-state of the original button so that there is a change so the user can tell that the text and/or button is interactive.
